The Al Mukminin Mosque is a kind of community center, in Singapore, that houses conference rooms, social areas and offices and the main prayer hall. It was extended with a madrasah designed in contemporary colors and with traditional Islamic influence by Forum Architects who seeks to explore, beyond increasing the capacity of the space, the universality of Islamic principles in the creation of buildings that transcend the artificial cultural barriers .
The juxtaposition of colors and shadows on the aluminum blinds is designed to create a mottled effect of facade dematerialization. In Islamic architecture, this effect is often achieved through geometric alternating games. Here, the complex composition of turquoise, yellow and blue animates a plan surface by giving a sense of depth.
The interface between the existing prayer room and the new madrasah is made by a glass skylight. The definite and complex meeting point between the old and new volumes forms the geometry of a shredded roof which combines them gently with arcs and curves while respecting the spirit of the previous architectural designer.
